Over time watching productivity videos on YouTube and reading business and self-development books, I’ve noticed that there were a lot of one-liners that impacted my life a lot.
I found myself rethinking some life concepts that I thought were set in stone in my own head.
So I decided to create an Apple Notes folder with cool quotes and I want to share some of the most impactful ones with you today.
“If you think ‘can I afford it?’ - you can’t.”
This quote is from a book that I’m reading right now called “Millionaire Fastlane”.
You never think whether you can afford it when you're buying a pack of gum, right?
I’m probably right to assume that you wouldn’t feel sad that you spent money on a pack of gum after you lose your job 2 weeks later.
You’d probably think who’s going to repay your car payment, or “how do I get enough money to cover my mortgage/rent”?
If you can pay cash right now, and your lifestyle doesn't change because of it – you can afford it.
“Most skills can be decently learned with about 20 hours of focused effort. The problem is that most people will take years to start the first hour.”
I heard this quote from Alex Harmozi during one of his podcasts.
It really struck me because when I don’t know how to do something I usually tell myself that it’ll be too hard to learn or that I can’t do it because I don’t know how.
But most times one quick Google search or YouTube video later I’m well on my way to learning to do the thing that I thought was impossible 5 minutes ago.
Watching the video or Googling stuff isn’t hard but forcing myself to start typing the first letters into the bar search is the hardest part.
“Society reward effectiveness but not effort.”
Effectiveness = getting from point A to point B in the shortest amount of time with the least effort.
I think this quote applies to so many aspects of life.
Whether you’re trying to grow a YouTube channel, have an impact on the world, start a side hustle, prepare food, have a great night out, fall asleep, or anything else.
Being effective doesn’t always mean putting in the largest amount of time.
It’s usually changing your approach, your beliefs, skills, or your strategy but not the amount of time that makes the difference.
Thanks for reading 👋.
I'd classify Skills as miniskills, because you can't learn a skill like web development for ex for 20 hours. you can learn html css and a good amount of js, but then you have new things to start, I think the quote has more to do with starting to learn something
